Croup

We had a late night visit to the ER with Burandt last night...he woke us up screaming that he couldn't breathe. He was wheezing and crying at the same time and could barely take in any air. It was scary! I brought him in at about 2:00 in the morning. It was very slow in the ER last night so he got right in which is great! He saw Dr. Julie Montana who looked him over and decided he has croup. Croup is a virus so there is no medication to make it go away...you just have to treat the symptoms. The gave him a nebulizer treatment of epinephrine and that really worked.
Thank goodness!
We got home about 3:30 and I put him to bed with the cool mist vaporizer in his room. He slept through the night and woke up this morning breathing fine and just has a barky cough so that's good too...they say sleeping is when croup attacks really flair up so I guess we will see how tonight goes. There is nothing scarier than not being able to help your child when they can't breathe!
